Thor #518

"Prophesies, weddings, and other disasters."

By Ralph L. Angelo Jr

Splash Page : Thor , with left knee bent, faces All Mighty Odin on the Throne of Asgard.

Narrator : Last Issue the God of Thunder defeated the all new Devastator in a battle royale in Midtown Manhattan. Just after his moment of Victory, Odin, Thors father and king of the Gods whisked Thor away , speaking of dire paths ahead!

Thor : "WHAT??!"

Page 2

Odin: "Calm thyself my son, this is indeed true, as much as thou wouldst find it hard to believe, Fandral the Dashing and thy former beloved Sif will be married on the morrow."

Thor: "Aye my father, it -it was just that thy pronouncement did stun the God of thunder momentarily."

Odin: "Aye my son as I expected as much ."

Thor: " Now, what of thy recent life on Midgard? Ho goest things there?"

Thor: "All goes well my father. Things doth proceed apace."

Odin: "Good. Now onto other things my Son. I have , of late uncovered a prophecy most dire. It doth seem that Ragnarok will not be the undoing of Asgard, but rather will be the "Weeping Dawn."

Page 3

Thor: "What? Verily my father, ne'er have Io heard of this "Weeping Dawn.". What is it and where must the Son of Odin go to defeat this enemy of Asgard."

Odin: "The "Weeping Dawn" is more then just a dire foe of Asgard, but rather of all the god like realms."

Thor: "Then tell me my father of this menace to our peoples."

Odin breathes deeply and rises from his seated position.

Odin: "Come with me Thunderer, and we shall speak."

The two move away , into Odins gardens. As from the shadows, the astral form of Loki, god of mischief watches , and plans.

Page 4

Odin: " Amongst our kind, Gods, there have been many signs of the crossroads, signs of an end time, when the lesser and greater Gods cease to exist. For some this has already occurred. In truth my son, the great end I fear, is upon us all."

Thor: "But what is this thing my father, and why have you feared its wrath now?"

Odin: "That God of Thunder is what I do not know."

Thor: "I do not understand."

Page 5

Odin: "Some time ago I beheld a mystic Sygil on the grassy forests of Asgards third fork*. I knew the sign for what it was and contacted my fellow God heads. Zeus has seen the same markings in an uninhabited region of Olympus. The others have not contacted me as of yet."

*See Thor #513

Thor: " Again my father I ask thee , what is this thing?"

Odin: " The end of Godhood my son. "

Page 6

Odin: "We, as Gods know that Mortals will someday stop believing in us. Their prayers have stopped some time ago, but their beliefs were always there. Their "What ifs" . Now, that too is fading fast. In the new age on Midgard, electronics have taken the place of imagination. Our lives have been shortened dramatically because of it."

Thor: "So my father, because the mortals do not think of us means that we will cease to exist?"

Odin: "Aye, so I fear. One day soon, the "Weeping Dawn" will be upon us, and all of the God realms will run like water and disappear fore'er."

Page 7

Thor silently contemplates this as the two continue to walk.

Thor: "Why do I not feel any indication of this my father."

Odin: "Because my son, you of all the Asgardians will survive the coming end."

Thor : " WHAT?!"

Odin: "Aye my son, you see, thy time amidst the mortals these past few years has strengthened their belief in thee, their knowledge that thou doth indeed exist. In truth that which I e'er did rail 'gainst thee for hath been thy saving grace."

Page 8

Nearby, invisibly , Loki reacts as if struck a mortal blow.

Loki: (So the Buffoon Thor will survive this coming doom and not I? What madness is this? Loki deserve life eternal, not the dull witted Thunder God! Loki is e'er the smart one, the one who thinks ahead. Now I must plan. If any die now, twill not be Loki, God of mischief !)

And with that Loki's astral form is gone!

Cut to Earth and the administrative offices of "Warhammer construction."

Jerry Sapristi sits back and sighs, life is good!

Jerry: ( Man the best thing I ever did was hook up with Sig. He's made me a junior partner in his company and the work is flying in. I woulda never been able to afford sending Jenny to Europe if not for Sig. My baby deserves the best, and finally life is what it's supposed to be.)

Page 9

Jerry's intercom buzzes.

Jerry: "Yes Terry, what is it?"

Terry: "Uh Mr Sapristi, there are some....uh...gentlemen here to see you."

Jerry: "Do they have an appointment Terry? "

Just then the door explodes inwards as a massive figure throws himself through it, shoulder first!

Another man enters behind the big one, this one is thin, but his eyes tell of a deadly nature, while yet a third follows him. The third speaks.

Page 10

F D : " My name is "Fancy Dan", and we don't need an appointment tough guy. We were sent by our boss to deliver a message. Your operating a construction business in this town without a permit. You 're gonna have to start payin' fer that permit now. The first installments in blood."

Jerry: "I know you bums, you're the "Enforcers". I ain't a scared a you. I grew up in the streets loser, I can handle myself you punks. You wanna dance? Let's dance!"

Out in the office Terry Gables sits stunned, fearing for Jerry Sapristi's life, looking at her phone , which was torn from the wall, as were all the other phones in the empty office, as an elevator door opens and a blind man enters, carrying a briefcase filled with legal forms needing signatures. His name is Matt Murdoch.

Page 11

Matt: (What have I stumbled onto, radar sense shows me the enforcers are about to start tearing Sapristi apart, and he's not frightened, according to his heartbeat and sweat , he's actually excited. But I think he's going to need a little help anyway, these punks have fought Spider-man to a standstill.)

Terry : "Mr Murdoch, run! These guys are going to kill the boss! Get help!"

Matt: ( Great, she had to panic and call out my name.)

Matt turns and ducks through the elevator door as the Ox runs after him to stop him, to late! The doors close, and the elevator drops quickly . But Matt Murdoch is no longer in it, rather on its roof and firing a retractable "billy club" line upwards, is the man without fear, Daredevil! The line attaches itself to the floor above the one Matt was just occupying, and Daredevil pulls himself upwards with a touch on the clubs handle, which activates a retraction mechanism.

Page 12

DD : ( I've got to get back to that office immediately.)

Activating the doors from their safety override, Daredevil swings through the doorway, and into action!

Instantly his radar sense take in the scene around him!

DD: "What the?!?"

What does he "see"? You'll have to wait until next issue to find out, lest we forget who the star of this book is we return to the Realm Eternal, Asgard!

Page 13

Thor and Odin are standing discussing the current problem facing all the various pantheons, when Sif and Fandral approach

Sif: "My lord, may we have a word with thee?"

Odin: "Of course fair Sif, daughter of my heart."

Thor almost bristles at this, but he knows twas not meant to harm him. Odin was merely speaking the truth. He has long considered Sif one of his own, as are all Asgardians in truth.

Sif: "We would like to ask a boon of thee my Lord."

Page 14

Odin: "Ask away my child."

Sif: "Couldst we have the reception here, in the palace royal? It would mean the world to me."

Odin: "Of course my dear, I , in truth would have it no other way."

Sif: "I thank thee my lord."

She turns to Thor.

Sif : "How are you Thor? Have you been well?"

Thor: "Aye my lady. My heart doth leap for thy joy, as well as my boon companion Fandrals."

Page 15

Thor shakes Fandrals arm, in the warriors grasp

Fandral: "May I speak with thee in private Thor?"

Thor: " Of course my friend."

Both Gods look at Sif.

Fandral : "We will return shortly my love."

He kisses her on the cheek, Thor not turning away. To do so would be to show weakness of a sort. Thor turns to Odin.

Thor: "I will return shortly my father"

Odin: "Aye my son, as I expected."

Page 16

Both Gods walk out into the main palace, as Odin speaks with Sif for a moment , then turns and exits himself. Sif looks around and sniffs the plants and flowers with a contented smile on her face. Suddenly a fruit fly buzzes out of a flower and catches Sifs attention. Instantly her tongue lashes out, catching the insect in mid flight and pulling it into her mouth. She closes her eyes as a satisfied grin crosses her face and her tongue, forked as would be a serpents, licks her lips. She opens her eyes, eyes that now are slit like, vertically, again as are a serpents. She closes those eyes yet again, and when next they open , they are normal.

Thor and Fandral walk through the palace royal.

FANDRAL: " My friend, Ne'er do I want this to come between us. We are in truth like brothers, but something has happened between Sif and myself of late. An almost mystical closeness. Ne'er did I e'en consider marriage before, and yet now, tis seemingly natural for me."

Thor: "Do not worry my friend, for some time did Sif and I grow apart. Twas nothing that had to do with thee. But what of the Enchantresses condition? Has she made any progress?"

Page 17

Odin approaches and overhears.

Odin: "Thor , that was in truth yet another reason I did call thee. Amora has awakened from her long sleep."

Thor: "My heart doth know joy my liege! Where is she, that I may visit her?"

Odin: "The hall of physicians my son."

Thor: "Then I shall return shortly my lord. Fandral, I bid thee good day."

Thor walks to the outside of the Grand Palace and whirls Mjolnir, to instantly take skyward, in the direction of the Hall of Physicians.

Page 18

Thor: ( In truth I know not what I feel for this brash woman. She hath murdered a police officer in the recent past before the "Onslaught" debacle*, and yet did she fight selflessly 'gainst the evil "Lord Nefaria"** , to save me from almost certain death, at peril of her own life.)

*See Thor 495-500 and MV1 Thor #511

Thor lands on the roof of the Hall of Physicians, as a white robed cleric meets him.

Cleric: "Greetings God of Thunder, how may I serve thee this day?"

Thor: "I seek the Enchantress good healer. Know thee of her current whereabouts?"

Cleric: "Aye my Lord, follow me hither."

Thor and the Cleric walk into the Hall, to a room facing the shining Asgardian Sun. At a window, Amora the Enchantress stands looking out into the daylight.

Cleric: "You have a visitor Amora."

Page 19

She turns haughtily, suddenly her arrogance drops as she sees who it is.

Amora: "Thor?!? I-I..."

Thor walks over and kisses her gently , as the smiling cleric leaves, shutting the door behind him.

Amora: "My lord, I-I am pleased to see thee."

She looks down, not meeting his gaze. He grabs her chin gently, raising her face until their eyes meet.

Thor: "I am MOST pleased to see thee again Amora. Especially now."

Page 20

Amora: "Why "especially now" my Lord? "

Thor: " The realm eternal, mayhap all the realms face extinction Amora, and to not see thy beauty again before this happens would be the deepest hurt."

Amora: "You flatter me Thunderer. I am not used to that from thee."

Thor : "As I said earlier, I missed thee. I am e'en willing to overlook thy ....killing ...of the police officer some time ago."

She spins, instantly enraged!

Amora: "Again with this mortal! "

Thor: " A mortals life is important Amora, there can be no denying that. Their lives are but faint flickerings of the candles flame, to be snuffed out by any errant breeze."

Amora: "But if thou wouldst let me finish, I DID NOT KILL THE MORTAL! "

Thor: "What? But I saw in the mystic pool..."

Amora: "You saw him disappear, correct?"

Page 21

Thor: "Aye."

Amora: "Well "God of Thunder" he wanted to know more about the Asgardians as a people, so I sent him to where he could indeed learn all about us..!"

Thor: "To Asgard?"

Amora: " Sometimes thou art so exasperating and thick headed..."

Thor: "Have a care Enchantress..."

Amora: "No Thor, thou shouldst have a care, not I . I did not send the fool to Asgard, rather I sent him to the home of those that did worship us at one time, I sent him to the frozen mountains of Norway!"

Thor: " Ods blood!"

Hammering Dialog C/O Rangelo@suffolk.lib.ny.us

Just finished Thor 517, Ralph. What an issue! For my money (virtually

speaking) you're the best action writer in MV1, and this issue's rematch

with Devastator proves the point. But what I really liked about this issue

was the character bits - Thor's date with Jenny, Sif and Fandral's wedding

announcement (!), and the reawakening of Enchantress. Great stuff!

Cheers,

Matt

Thanks Matt, coming from one of my personal favorite MV1 writers, that's a high compliment indeed!

Hey Ralph!

Once again, you've put out another excellent issue of Thor. I like the new

additions to Code: Blue. They seem interesting enough and I hope to see

more of them. The bit with Fandral and Sif was rather shocking! I can't

wait to see where this one is going.

Jerry's daughter is an entertaining character, and inserting her into

Thor's life was a good idea. Lastly, I have a few questons:

1. Whatever happenned to Red Norvell? He disappeared at the end of the Lost

Gods arc, but didn't reappear at the beginning of your Thor stuff. I'd like

to see him, maybe taking over the name of the Golden Age Thunderer.

2. Is there any chance we can see Loki's alias in the Lost Gods arc, a

Japanese buisnessman named Zho Tsung in the book? Somehow seeing him attack

Thor's buisness would be profoundly cool.

Anyway, Thanks for another great issue! I can't wait for the next!
