Origin and Background: (Greek-African American) Athene (pronounced Ah-theen-ney) is the daughter of two CHESS agents who were killed in the field when she was quite young. Alexandria Huntington, Queen of C.H.E.S.S., was Athene's godmother and she set up a Trust Fund to provide for Athene. Alexandria felt like she failed Athene's parents so she tried to make up for it by making sure Athene got the best that C.H.E.S.S. could afford. Athene went to the best schools and was taught by the best tutors.

It wasn't until Athene's teenager years when she began to runaway. She wanted to know more about her parents and no one would tell her anything except they were killed in a traffic accident. She scourged the internet in search for answers but all she found were more questions. She was able to piece together some scraps of information. Her parents were supposedly insurance agents for a company called "Destiny's Destinations" and their job took them all over the world (it was a cover for their real activities as spies). She was able to locate their address from an out of date website.

At the age of 14, Athene snuck out of her house and set out to locate the main office of Destiny's Destinations. Her guardian watched her leave and informed his superior of her departure. Once downtown, Athene found that the building had been closed for rennovations. She couldn't find any other information about their new location or when it would be open again. She had hit a dead end. After this little excursion, her guardian found her and brought her back home. She was warned again not to run away.

At the age of 16, Athene was contacted by an anonymous source that said he had information about her parents. She agreed to meet him and they made arrangements to meet him at a deserted park. When Athene arrived, she was aurrounded by various grim looking men. They laughed at her and promised her that her death would be slow and painful. They were rogue Intercrime agents who were seeking to kill her as revenge against her parents (they hated her for the many defeats that they suffered from the hands of her parents). Athene fought hard but was quickly outnumbered. She thought she would surely die.

Suddenly the Intercrime goons began to fall like flies. First one exploded in flames as another was bound by swirling bands of metal. Another and another goon fell under the unrelenting onslaught of gadget crossbow bolts. Diana (a.k.a. Alexandria Huntington) was determined that these goons would not hurt her goddaughter. She rescued Athene and told her the truth about her parents. Athene wanted to join C.H.E.S.S. and she tried to convince Diana to let her join. After all, it isn't like she can easily forget the truth and return to school as if nothing had happened.

Diana smiled since she recognized the same fire in her that was in her parents. She knew she wouldn't be able to stop Athene once her mind was made up (she inherited the same trait as her mother had). Athene joined C.H.E.S.S. and quickly accelerated through the training program. She displayed a talent for job and quickly rose through the ranks. After many successful missions, she has become an Angel and is always ready to carry on the fight for justice just like her parents did.
