Projekt Fafnir

FAFNIR
In the ruins of an ancient castle in Germany lies sleeping one of the Earth's last dragons, "drachen" in german. The beast is large, vicious, and intelligent. German officials became aware of the dragon in 1941 while attempting to use the castle as lodging for German troops. The dragon was unhappy at being disturbed and slew 5 of them before they managed a hasty retreat.

A Commander Weisshaupt struck on the idea of negotiating with the dragon, and quickly managed to come to a truce. The dragon had no urge to fight for the Germans, but in return for being left alone the dragon would defend the area alongside the Germans if it was ever attacked. Weisshaupt planned to take advantage of this by leaking news to the Allies that there was a secret German experiment going on in the castle. When the Allies sent a team to investigate the dragon attacked, and the Germans stepped in to help.

Weisshaupt's superiors were looking to find a way to control the dragon for use in the German offensive. They found the means to do this, but were too late to implement it before the end of the war. It is believed Odessa still possesses the results of these experiments and may attempt to use them at a future date.

No one knows if the dragon actually does hoard gold. Anyone who's gotten close enough to find out ends up dead or missing. If the dragon did hoard gold, it would be largely from the castle itself and anything easily transported by in by the dragon from outside. There would be some coins, but the bulk would be in the form of chalices, jewelry, and other ornaments. The total value would range in the millions for the gold value alone, but higher when you consider the value of the antiquated artifacts.

PROJECT DRACHEN MOERDER

Project Drachen Moerder (Dragon Slayer) was created as a counter to Project Fafnir in case the dragon involved got out of hand and turned on the Germans. It is simple in concept, resembling an anti-tank missile. The missile itself is highly complex, the most sophisticated built by the Germans. It has a range of just under a quarter mile, and will automatically home in on the greatest source of heat in that area. The warhead is a shaped charge that sends flechette and schrapnel straight into whateverthe missile hits, doing massive physical damage. This type of attack bypasses the dragon's natural immunity to energy attacks.

5 of these missiles existed in the German arsenal, what remained is believed to have fallen into the hands of Odessa after the war.
