Axis Metahumans:

Hitler recruited a number of metahumans into the German war effort. Many of these cannot be classified simply as villains. They were fighting for their country, and most did not have a direct hand in the attrocities attributed to Hitler and many of his people. In addition, there were a number of metahumans brought into service by the other Axis powers worth noting.

DOPPELGANGER (real name unknown):
A German metahuman spy. He often infiltrated Allied installations by posing as a minor official. He also managed to infiltrate the Freedom Alliance once by posing as Tarcza. His real identity is unknown, but he was believed to be a German national, possibly a mutant.

EISEN HAND (Gunther Frederick):
A daring major who lost most of his right arm during a successful battle was selected by the Fuhrer to take part in a German bionics experiment. His missing arm was replaced by a metal one, driven by complex clockworks. The new arm was super strong and nearly indestructible. He became a battlefield leader like no other. He was fearless, and inspired intense loyalty in both human and metahuman troops. He was once seen saving the lives of several men by rushing from cover to grab a grenade that then detonated harmlessly in his metal hand.

FEE (Franz Launisch):
A volunteer to the Nazi movement in the late 1930's. He is believed to be a German born with mutant abilities, but the French heroine Esprit claimed some kinship with him and said that he was "not mortal." At full height he was considerably shorter than average, with pointed ears and fair skin and hair. He could shrink down to only a few inches tall at will, and frequently worked alone on espionage and sabotage missions, or with other German metahumans on special missions.

GEIST (Franz Schnabel):
A young pilot in World War 1 whose plane crashed towards the end of the war. He ended up in a coma and awoke a year after the war ended. During his rehabilitation he discovered that his accident had awakened strange new abilities in him. He found that he could walk through solid objects, and turn invisible at will. Initially he refrained from using these powers, but his dissatisfaction with the situation at the end of the war drove him to join with Hitler's fascist elements, and pledge the use of them to the Nazi cause. It's unknown if he survived after the war, or where he might have gone.

After the war he helped found Odessa, and has been a major force behind NeoNazi activities since the war. Since the war he has stayed primarily behind the scenes. It is not known if he is currently alive.

HYENA (Ludolf Steuben):
A private in the employ of Rommel during his African campaign who was caught outside camp one night and attacked by a large hyena. He managed to scare it off with his pistol, but not until after being bitten several times on the arms on legs. During treatment for his wounds he began to display strange abilities, and managed to alter his shape to that of a half-man half-hyena, and later even a full-hyena. Nazi scientists assumed his abilities came from the bite of a were-hyena, but could not duplicate the effect on other soldiers using his bites, or bodily fluids. Eventually he was allowed to return to duty with Rommel's forces. After Rommel committed suicide in 1944, he was brought to the German lines. It is not known for certain if he survived the war, but a person matching his description was seen by the Nazi hunter Kammerjaeger in Africa during the 1980's, apparently unaged since the war.

SABOTEUR (Francois Michard):
A French double agent who showed his Nazi affiliations in 1942 by betraying several secret agents on a mission in Berlin. He is a master with baits and traps. Favoring mechanical traps, he created an arsenal of special devices and traps for use against allied forces. He continued his career after the war as a freelance agent. He successfully evaded capture on every occasion. In the '60's he took on his first protege, "Ambush". Ambush was captured several times but always managed to escape imprisonment until 1985 when he was imprisoned in the Project Lockdown. Saboteur's second protege was more successful. Bushwhacker made his debut in 1980 and has been active ever since. Bushwhacker favors larger, more impressive traps than Saboteur did. And he manages to execute them with often astounding results. Saboteur has apparently retired from direct action himself.

SCHEUSAL (Gustophus Stein):
The 'Brute' was the Nazi's greatest strong-man. His exact strength remains unknown but he was able to lift a heavy tank without difficulty and throw it some distance. His immense strength also gave him near invulnerability, and troops he fought against would routinely break and run. He was partly responsible for the Germany's quick advance on Moscow before he was sent to ther fronts. It is not known if he survived the war.

SPERBER (Adolphus Gutzeit):
The 'Sparrow Hawk' was the greatest flying ace of the Luftwaffe. He flew a number of experimental planes during the war, and often faced off against the Allied fighter pilot Kestrel. His father was a flying ace of the first World War and taught his son to fly at an early age. He crashed during the test flight of a new experimental plane a month before the war ended, and was believed to have been killed.

TOTENTANZ (Heide Fleiss):
The 'Dance of Death' was the secretary of a German scientist experimenting with deadly new gasses. The lab they were in was sabotaged by the Maquis, French resistence fighters. In the explosions that resulted a mix of several different deadly gasses were released into the lab, killing everyone but Heide. The gasses worked strangely on her system, giving her a 'death-like' appearence and driving her to madness. She emerged as a ruthless killer, dominating and savage.

She now had an immunity to all known toxins and poisons, and could even stay alive underwater indefinatly. After a period of study by German scientists, she was given a chance to prove her worth and became one of a select number of women in Hitler's Gestapo. Totentanz is a tall, gaunt, pale-skinned, dark-haired woman in her 30's. She wears her hair pulled back tightly in a bun, with a tight black skirt, black blouse, and the long, black trenchcoat of a Gestapo officer. Besides a standard issue pistol, she arms herself with small cans of compressed gas and a gas gun. Some of the gasses she uses will paralyze, others hurt or kill. It is believed that she survived the war and became one of the early psychotic villains, often attempting to poison large numbers of people in former Allied countries.

TUONO (unknown):
There is no one quite like Tuono. He claims to be a bastard son of Zeus, born to an italian woman in the early part of the 20th century. He is a large man, superhumanly strong, invulnerable, and able to hurl lightning bolts from his hands. He first appeared publicly before World War 2 when Italy allied with Germany. He fought with incredible fervor for the Italian cause. When Italy later turned against Germany he fought just as fiercely for the Allies. To him it was perfectly natural to fight by the side of people he had recently tried to kill, and he publicly expressed sincere regret upon hearing of the death of Bouncing Betty.

After the war, Tuono continued to work solely for the benefit of Italy. This blind patriotism is unusual because Italy has gone through an average of a new government every year since WW2. His demeanor is very pleasant, and almost child like. Yet despite his seeming naivete he is a most cunning opponent. He has used his great strength to help a poor farmer till his field, and he has captured more than a hundred supervillains. In the years since the war Chessmaster visited him in person at least once every couple of years. He has not visibly aged during that time.

VULKAN MÄDCHEN (Linda Weiss):
'Volcano Lass' was the only fighting female in the Fuhrer's collection of metahumans. Apparently a secretary working for Goering whose natural powers reputedly manifested themselves when Goering's personal driver tried to rape her, he died in the attempt. She had the power to coat herself with a super heated substance resembling molten lava, and to project the same substance on opponents trapping them and burning them in the process. She was used in front line action on occasion, but also worked to boost morale of German soldiers and civilians. It's not known exactly what happened to her, but rumors say that Hitler found out that her parents were Jewish in the last days of the war, and that he had her executed immediately.
