Projekt Wampyre

DUKE BABENBERG
When Hitler united Austria with Germany, German troops moved to take control of an old Austrian castle for the purpose of housing troops and acting as a local command center. Despite initial appearances, however, the castle was not abandoned. It was the home of the last surviving member of the Babenberg family, once Dukes of Austria. Konrad Anton Babenberg was born during the 12th century. During his early 40's he fell afoul of a gypsy vampire, who took his revenge by turning the Duke into one of his own kind.

The Duke fled his family and took up residence in one of their older castle holdings. He has remained there through the years, terrorizing the countryside every few days to feed, but otherwise remaining hidden in his keep. He created a handful of vampires over the years for companionship - all of whom were slain by German troops when they took the castle. The Duke alone survived, and struck a deal with the German commander.

When Hitler was informed of the vampire's existence, and willingness to work with the Germans, he authorized the formation of a new project called Projekt Wampyre and assembled a team of volunteers among the army, SA, and SS. The Duke turned them one-by-one into vampires and formed Nacht Abteilung, or Night Squad. The project serves as a support organization for Nacht Abteilung, providing them with recruits, transport, "food", and anything else they require.

NACHT ABTEILUNG

The soldiers of Nacht Abteilung are all young German vampires created by Duke Babenberg. They were chosen mainly by history and attitude. The troops had to be willing to die for their country, to be resurrected as the undead, and maleable enough for their superiors to be able to control them afterwards.

The group are led by Duke Konrad Anton Babenberg, who has accustomed them to their new lives and trained them in the use of their new abilities. The group gets along well, establishing dominance much like a pack of wolves. They have been employed on a variety of fronts, but are not allowed to be sent behind enemy lines because Hitler fears they would defect to the Allies, or simply fail to return. Each of the vampires are provided sustenence in the form of a Jewish prisoner every three days.
