AERIE: A restaurant and danceclub.
ANDAR PUL: Head of the Wingman police force, a high official of Thanagar, and secretely father of Shayara Thal.
ARDEENA STAA: New high priestess of Haani, murdered by someone pretending to be a Raven. The first woman to be named high priest in any of the seven official religions.
AZA: A planet the Thanagarians conquered and committed genoicide on, and to get their voyagers and hyperspace technology. Only succeeded in killing the population.
BLOODBAT: One of the Downsiders imported from another world, a snakelike being who wanted to be Shadow Lord instead of Tros Samoth or Kator Hol.
BESKA: One of the seven devils (Devil of Folly).
BYTH: Was Kator Hol's superior in the Wingmen, a corrupt policeman who later tried to betray Thanagar. Changed shape via a pill, pre-Crisis.
CELAE: The gods of the Te Shamaar.
DOWNSIDERS: The aliens imported from conquered worlds, who serve the Thanagarians, and 3000 die every day. Some Thanagarians also live down there...slum conditions. 3 billion of them.
DUPLICATOR: Can duplicate any object, albeit lifeless if living.
FAENEAR: The army of the souls of the dead commanded by Kakahlan.
FALOMER: Lord of Wisdom in one of the seven recognized religions.
GAE DEON: Similar to Apollo among the Celae, talisman designed like the sun.
HIGH MOR: Ruler of Thanagar.
HAANI: Goddess of love in one of the seven recognized religions.
HYANTHIS: Offworlder vying for power on Thanagar, Shayera's grandmother.
ILLORAL: Conquered world, source of Kragger's drugs.
IMPOSSIBLE DAY: Where descendents of Rhon Dhu do three "impossible" feats.
IRBLE: One of the seven devils.
JARL: Thanagarian smuggler, brother of Klus.
JAVAT POM: Archeologist.
JUSTICE TOWERS: Administrative place of law.
KAKAHLAN: Chief warrior of the Celae, who used the souls of the dead to build his army, the Faenear.
KALMORAN: Folk-hero. Born on islands, when Thanagar was just a Polaran slave world. He lived much of his life as a slave, but one day he killed his keeper and ran away. When he returned it was at the head of an army...three thousand strong. His army stormed the Polaran garrison, took their ships, and struck the Polaran slave worlds, planet by planet. He razed the entire Polaran homeworld. Had no interest in ruling the Polaran worlds, but they knew that he'd do what they could to keep them safe. So he came back and build a beautiful city. When he was very old, came back to the islands, laid back in his queen's arms, looked at all he had built...and died. First High Mor of Thanagar.
KANJAR RO: Post-Crisis, worked at the Bureau of Alien Affairs, helping arrange the Thanagarian empire, and later appointed as administrator of some worlds...doubtless out Antares way...
KARLIS PAR: The corrupt high priest who employed Tros Samoth.
KATOR HOL: Son of Paran Katar and a human woman of Indian extraction. Collector of ancient weapons, member of the Wingmen, the Hawk police, who later left Thanagar, first on assignment to Earth, then decided to leave Thanagar.
KLUS: Thanagarian stationed on Earth.
KOKH: One of the seven devils.
KRAGGER: An older, more experienced wingman, in Byth's squad, and helped with ensign Katar Hol. Killed by Byth's planning.
KRANDOR VAT: High Mor of the Planet Thanagar...Thanagar's leader.
KRENNO: head of the restaurant, the Aerie.
KROTAN: Inventor of the shape-changing pill Byth stole, pre-Crisis.
LIZARKONS: One race of Downsiders, reptilian.
LUSTROMETER: Can trace the specific lustre of gems.
MAR RHIGAN: Goddess of death among the Celae, who had a cauldron if, the dead were placed in it...could walk again.
MAN-HAWKS: Another race of Downsiders. Ornithoid beings.
OLD EMPIRE: A previous historical society of Thanagar, one where he felt Thanagar did more. Perhaps started by Kalmoran.
ONIMAR: One of the seven devils.
PARAN KATAR: Kator Hol's father, an ornithologist, arisan, scientist...pre-Crisis, helped stop the Man-Hawks and invented the wings and belt by which they fly, post-Crisis, studied other worlds for Thanagarians to conquer but secretely sympathized with those the Thanagarians had enslaved. Invented the wings they all use.
POLARA: Planet, or empire of planets, that enslaved the Thanagarians, until Kalmoran threw off their yoke. Even in Kator's day, made wines for Thanagar.
RADIOTRON: Can trace radiation.
RAVEN: Religious assasin. Tros Samoth was one.
RELIGIONS: There are seven recognized ones, like Haani, goddess of love. Hence, terms like "seven hells", "seven devils", etc.
RHON DHU: Shayera's ancestor, and did three "impossible" things, which started the tradition of "Impossible Day."
SHADOW GENERATORS: Semi-sentient power leeches that feed off the nearest supply of energy. Can draw images from subconscious.
SHADOW LORD: Head of a largish gang, it was a role Katar Hol assumed for a time...
SHAYERA THAL: Granddaughter of Hyathis, post-Crisis, and daughter of Thal Porvis in name and Ander Pul in actuality. Raised "downside" for twelve years, later became a member of the Wingmen police force. And still later came to Earth with Katar Hol.
SHEKKEL: One of the seven devils.
SHINDAT: A downsider who was alos a Thanagarian. Killed by Byth and Kragger.
SHOGGOTH: One of the seven devils.
SHR'I: Term of repsect to a female Thanagarian, like "Miss" or "Mrs".
S'RI: Term of respect to a male Thanagarian, like "Sir" or "Mister".
TE SHAMARR: The old religion of Thanagar, which worshipped a band of gods called the Celae. Not one of the seven official religions. Largely abandoned, they play with the dead.
THAL PORVIS: Shayera's supposed father. A corrupt official of Thanagar. An administrator.
THERMOTECTOR: Can trace body heat.
TOFAR DANN: A Thanagarian archeologist.
TOPSIDERS: The Thanagarians, who lived in the high towers, being served by the Downsiders.
TRANSCAM: A device to detect weapons.
TRESKA: Princess of one of the downside people, with a child, and beloved by Tros Samoth.
VEIL OF VALMOORA: A giant waterfall.
VERACIKONE: Keeps one from lying.
VOROX: One of the seven devils.
