Villains of the Golden Age:

FREEDOM ALLIANCE

HISTORY:
The group was formed by the Red Terror in 1940. It had minor success in several criminal schemes in the New York area until 1942. The group was holed up in a hotel by law enforcement agents when three superhumans appeared in the hotel and assaulted the group. All three of the Brotherhood were knocked unconscious and quickly captured by federal agents. The three heroes were described as a man-wolf, a crystalline woman, and another woman who could turn invisible. The heroes were never seen by anyone but the Brotherhood, and have not been reported since.

MEMBERSHIP:
Red Terror (Marcus Ruchholdt):
A brilliant chemist who was changed forever in a mysterious lab accident at the chemical research facility where he worked. Evidence suggests that he was working on a new chemical weapon for the U.S. Army in case the Manhattan Project failed to produce results. Any conclusive proof of this was destroyed in the accident.

When he awoke in the hospital Marcus was irreparably scarred, and he found the hospital staff was unreasonably terrified of him. Experimentation proved that the terror was induced by some type of pheromone produced by his sweat glands which were apparently altered in the accident.

Because of the alienation caused by his uncontrolled powers Marcus went insane. He became a megalomaniac, and began using his powers to set up a small criminal empire in New York. After clashing with some of the new super powered vigilantes in New York, Red Terror - as he now called himself - recruited the other members of the ill fated group. After his capture, he remained in prison until 1966 when he was released. He disappeared immedeatly after and has not been reported since.

Black Mask (Barbara Darrens):
According to her discussions with federal officials after her capture, Ms. Darrens was driving home from a bachelor's party in Poughkeepsie, where she had been hired to strip, and came across what appeared to be a wrecked car. Upon stopping she found that it had no wheels, and emitted an odd green glow. Looking inside it appeared to be the cockpit of a plane. She became nervous and feared it was some type of enemy vehicle. She grabbed what appeared to be a gun off the floor of the vehicle and returned to her car. She then blacked out, and does not remember driving home.

The next day she felt changed and noted that she had grown 3 inches taller and had become decidedly more muscular. Hours later, three men in black suits broke into her house and attempted to subdue her. She evaded the men with ease and blasted them with the strange gun that she had found the previous night. All three were disintegrated. She embarked on a criminal career for 'survival', and after her release from prison in 1955 she wrote about her experiences and became an early expert on UFO's. She now lives in Phoenix, Az, a retired author of UFO books.

Torpedo (Fritz Langley):
Fritz was in trouble with the law years before his ability to fly manifested itself. Seizing the opportunities his newfound abilities presented, he became a small time crook called the 'Hawk'. Red Terror recruited him and made him the armored suit that he wore as Torpedo. Fritz died in 1954 during an escape attempt from an early metahuman containment facility, a year before he was due to be released.
